Matthew Burns Saylor, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Saylor aged 9 months, 27 days. He was a fine, beautiful child, until a few days before his death, when he took a cold, which settled on his lungs and he died on the evening of February 25, 1904. This is a great trial, especially to his mother, whose heart is almost broken by this sad bereavement. Those who have never lost a child, cannot understand what a void the death of a little one can make. There is nothing on earth that can cast so long and wide and deep a shadow as a little coffin. Small as is its grave, it is large enough to hold the dearest joys of a mother's heart. How many little children are in Heaven? Infants, whose souls were washed and regenerated so early that no stain of sin was ever visible upon the soul! There they abide eternally in the presence of the Father "Of such is the kingdom of Heaven." Funeral services at the house were conducted by the pastor, interment in the family cemetery. I am not related and am copying this obituary for those who might find this person in their family history.
