Susan Campbell was born February 3, 1821 in Lancaster Co., Pa, and moved with her parents to Knox Co., Ohio when a child, where she grew to womanhood and was married to Aaron Campbell January 24, 1856, not being required to change her name, also being Mr. Campbell's third wife. To this union were born six children, two of whom died in infancy, Leroy, Frank, Kate and Libbie remain with three grandchildren to mourn the loss of one who was loved and respected alike by children and stepchildren as well as all others who came in touch with her kind unselfish disposition. During the civil war while her husband served as captain in the 64th Ohio regiment and later as major of the 163rd Ohio, she cared for the family and managed their farm in Richland Co. Ohio, to which they had moved soon after marriage. In the spring of 1865 they moved to a farm near Lebanon, Van Buren County, Iowa where the husband died in May 1889, Then in October 1906 she with a part of the family moved to a home in Milton where she died at 6:30 o'clock, March 15, 1910, being 89 years, 1 month and 12 days old and although she had exceeded the allotted time of men by more that 19 years, yet it is sad to part with a mother.
She retained her faculties of mind and Christian spirit to the last. Having made a profession of religion and uniting with the Presbyterian church at the age of 22 years, her life was most consistent, dying as she had lived, strong in the faith of Christian religion.
The funeral services were observed at the Presbyterian church of Milton, conducted by Rev. Wood, of Lebanon, taking as a text for this discourse the 9th verse of the 7th chapter Revelation after which the remains were interred at the side of her husband's grave in the Lebanon cemetery. The memory of Aunt Susan will long be cherished. I am not related and am posting this obituary for those who might find this person in their family history.
