Charley Saylor

SAYLOR

Posted By: Fran Hunt Volunteer
Date: 10/9/2001 at 07:37:20

The deceased was born May 10, 1895, near Milton Iowa. He departed this life December 12, 1918, 23 years, 7 months and 2 days old. He was the son of Jesse F. Saylor, his mother having departed this life when he was just a child.
At the age of 10 years he took upon himself the obligation of church vows, and remained a member of the Presbyterian church at Lebanon until his death. On Monday, the second day of December, he was taken with a very severe attack of the Spanish influenza, from which there seemed to be no relief, though medical skill and loving careful nursing were bestowed, death was inevitable.
The deceased was just entering a strong virile manhood, and was ready to take up life's problems and to make his contribution to social, religious and community life. He had much to live and look forward to. But beyond all of these earthly hopes and anticipations he heard the voice of the loving Heavenly Father calling him, and to that call he was not disobedient.
Yes it was hard to have Charley slip away from us. He will be missed as the stay and support of the loving, devoted father, and the step-mother who loved him as her own. He will be missed as one of the community. He will be missed by the church at Lebanon. He will be missed by a large degree by his pastor. The deceased was my friend. His was the first acquaintance of the young men of the community. It was a mutual friendship. We had plighted hands and pledged vows to work together for the success of the church and Sabbath school work at Lebanon.
The deceased leaves to mourn for him a loving father, and as kind and loving step-mother as can fall to one's lot. He leaves to mourn for him one who had plighted to him her hand, her heart and life. Also two brothers, one in southern Texas and the other in Canada.
He will be missed by the community, one and all. For it was here he was born and reared. Upright in character and conduct, he goes to join in that haven above, a loving mother and 3 brothers and sister. He has gone to take his place, we trust, with the great crowd of witnesses that no man can number, gathered around the great white throne of God, the Father in the heavens and to be at rest forever more. I am not related and am posting this obituary for those who might find this person in their family history.
