CHARLES CURTIS KILLED.
AT MANLY IOWA.

Chas. Curtis, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Scott Curtis of Columbus Junction was fatally injured Thursday evening about six o'clock in the switch yards of the B. C. R. & N. branch of the Rock Island railroad at Manly, Iowa, near the Minnesota line.

Chas. is a freight brakeman and at the time of the accident was hanging on the side of a freight car when he struck a cattle chute at the stock yards and fell. His skull was fractured and he died Friday at 10 o'clock.

He was nineteen years of age and a large, strong, healthy young man. He liked railroading and recently was passenger brakeman on the same road but gave it up because of the small opportunity for promotion, preferring to do freight work for a time and get something that suited him better later.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church in Farmington yesterday at 2 o'clock, several of his relatives and friends from Bonaparte attending.

Charles was born at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Whitmore, in Bonaparte and has spent several years of his life here. He attended school here four years ago. His prospects as a railroader were most flattering.
