OBITUARY SKETCH.

John Sivil was born in Cunningsby, Lincolnshire, England, June 6, 1828, and when a boy moved with his parents to London where he married Elizabeth Crease in 1849.

In 1852 they came to America, landing at New York and moving the same year to Pittsburg, Penn. In 1855 he came to Big Mound, Lee county, Iowa, where he has since resided.

On Sept. 3, 1860, at Ft. Madison, Iowa, he took our naturalization papers and on Sept. 30, 1862, he enlisted in 37 Reg. Iowa Volunteer Infantry, Company C., as musician. April 19, 1865, at Kelton Barraks [sic], Cincinnati, Ohio, he was appointed chief musician of 37 Reg. Iowa Vol. Infantry by Col. G. W. Kincaid. He was honorably discharged from the service the 24th day of May, 1865, at Davenport Iowa.

He was appointed postmaster at Big Mound, Iowa, and in that capacity was for about thirty-six years.

On the morning of February 6, 1904, Mr. Sivil died, aged seventy-five years and eight months. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Clark and Mrs. Edward Langwith; one brother, William Sivil , and two nieces Mrs. Floyd Macklin and Miss Emma Sivil of Bonaparte, and one nephew, William H. Sivil of Keokuk.

Funeral services on Monday were conducted by Rev. Lloyd Tennant of Hillsboro at the Sharon church with interrment [sic] in the Sharon cemetery. The Bonaparte Masonic lodge had charge of the service at the grave, Rev. Williamson assisting by reading the Scripture. The sermon was from John 11:25. A special quartette sang two beautiful selections.

Bonaparte friends extend sincere sympathy to the bereaved family.
