Died in Bloomfield, Davis County, Iowa, January 21, 1885, Mrs. Nancy Wallis, aged 43 years, 8 months and 28 days.
Nancy Swinney was born in Decatur County Indiana May 23, 1841. In the fall of 1848, her father removed to Davis County Iowa, and located near the present site of Pulaski. At the age of 16, Miss Swinney united with the Baptist Church in Pulaski, and March 3, 1859 was married to Mr. J.D. Wallis of Troy Iowa. About 5 years ago, they removed to Bloomfield from Milton and have ever since resided at this place. They had born to them an only daughter Flora Wallis Langenstein. It is not speaking too highly of the deceased to say that she was a woman of eminent Christian piety, "faithful and full of good works." She was of a gentle amiable and forgiving spirit, indeed, loved most by those who knew her best. Her patriotism was no less true than her piety, for at her country's call she gave up her husband without a murmur, to go to the defense of her native land.
As a neighbor, she was kind and thoughtful, especially so in cases of sickness and in ministrations to the poor.
As a wife and mother she was faithful, patient, ever indulgent, ruling her household by the mild scepter of love.
At her dying hour, while friends were weeping and mourning her departure, she was speaking words of comfort to them and exhorting them to meet her in Heaven. And though suffering intensely, she did not utter a word of complaint, nor did she forget absent friends and loved ones, but sent messages of love and kindly remembrance to many, asking them to meet her in Heaven, whither she expected to go through the merits of her ever present Savior.
The funeral services was conducted by Rev. J.M. Wright, January 22, in the presence of a large number of friends and relatives.
