Elizabeth Rinabarger, daughter of Henry and Eva Rinabarger was born in Rush County
Indiana, March 24, 1837.She came to Iowa with her parents when but four years old. January
14,(it does not give the year) she was united in marriage to Thomas Gnash. To this union
were given six children, five of whom preceeded their mother to the eternal home. They were
William, Stephen, Ella, Alice and Hattie. Mrs. Myrtle Shelton of Bloomfield, is the only surviving
child. Two brothers survive her. In 1882 she united with the Christian Church and in this faith
passed away having been faithful until death. Mrs. Gnash departed this life at the home of her
daughter Mrs. Frank Shelton March 18, 1910 aged 72 years, 11 months and 25 days.
Her husband passed to his reward in Milton, March 10, 1895, just 15 years ago. He was for
sometime a leading Elder in the Milton Christian Church. Mrs. Gnash was a devoted mother
and christian, quiet and unassuming by nature, she loved her home and family and was deeply
interested in everything pertaining to their welfare.
The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Ferrall at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Shelton
Saturday March 19, at 2:30 p.m.
The remains were transferred by rail to Milton where the interment was made in the Egypt
Cemetery, the pastor of the Milton Christian Church performing the last sad rites at the grave.
