Mrs. Clara M. Dooley, daughter of Rufus and Alice Hawley Bevier, was born May 22, 1882, in Pottawattamie County, Iowa, and died Wednesday, January 31, 1968, at the Kirk Nursing Home in Agency at the age of 85. In her youth she moved with her parents to Selma and later to Keokuk. She taught school in Selma, and on April 2, 1903, was married to Edward Dooley at Keokuk. Their entire married life was spent in the Selma community where they farmed, prior to retirement. Mr. Dooley passed away in 1957. Two brothers and a sister also preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sons, Dean of Selma and Gale of Fairfield; four daughters, Mrs. Gleda Davis and Mrs. Gwendolene Lepper, both of Selma. Mrs. Melva McClure of Bloomfield, and Mrs. Lorean Lynch of Calamus; 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Dooley was a long-time active member of the Selma Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 3, 1968, at 2 p.m., at the Selma Methodist Church with the Rev. Dennis Nicholson, pastor officiating. Vocalists were Mrs. Marvin Lanman and Mrs. Garold Hughes, accompanied by Mrs. Charley Kunzman. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Interment was in Mount Moriah Cemetery, with arrangements in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home.
