Onias Hale was born in Rush County Indiana in January 1825, and died at his home near
Milton Iowa, July 12, 1888.
Deceased came to Iowa in 1842. He leaves a wife and four children, two sons and two
daughters. He was a man of more than ordinary ability, and prominent in his neighborhood. He
was not a member of any church, but a lawabiding and upright citizen and a peacemaker,
whose counsel and advise was sought after by his neighbors. For a number of years he was
one of the supervisors of the county, and was regarded as a man of good judgment and
honest purpose. Some of the most important legislation that has ever come before the board
was disposed of during his term, and to the best interests of the people. His health had been
failing for two years, but more rpidly for the past few months. Funeral services were held at the
residence at l p.m. Friday, conducted by Elder Alvin Moore. He was buried with the honors of
the Masonic fraternity, of which he was a member. A large procession consisting of
seventy-five teams followed to the Egypt graveyard where the remains were laid away.
Milton Herald. I am not related and am posting this obituary for those who might find this person in their family history.
