----------------
Sarah E. Alfrey, daughter of Lewis and Emmaline Alfrey, was born near Farmington, Iowa, Dec. 28, 1849. She departed this life at Bentonsport, Iowa, Nov. 4, 1933, having reached the advanced age of 83 years, 9 months and 6 days.

Wm. Stacey Marriott, the young man she was united in marriage with, ran away and joined the army and spent his enlistment in the northern army in the Civil war. They were married at Vernon, Iowa. Of their five children, two, Thomas and Annie B. have departed this life; and Wm. Marriott of Mt. Zion, Mrs. Emma Cross of Walsenberg, Colo., and George Clyde Marriott of Laton, Calif., live to mourn the departure of their mother.

Mr. and Mrs. Marriott, after their marriage, spent their active life on the farm in the neighborhood of Vernon and their retired life was spent at Vernon, Bonaparte and Bentonsport.

Her husband died June 17, 1921, at the age of 78 years, 4 months and 11 days.

In her early life she united with the Baptist church.

The last thing she did while conscious was to repeat the Lord's prayer and bid goodbye to her loved ones.

Two sisters and one brother have gone on before her and one sister, Mrs. Amanda McCrary of Farmington is still living. She leaves 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the home in Bentonsport Monday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. and were conducted by Rev. Harvey E. Butler, pastor of the Bentonsport Methodist church. Interment was made in Vernon cemetery.
