----------------------------
Amanda Jane McCrary, daughter of Lewis and Emeline Alfrey, was born on a farm near Farmington, Iowa, April 3, 1847, and departed this life Dec. 4, 1936, at her home in Farmington. She was 89 years, 8 months and 1 day of age at death.

She was united in marriage Jan. 26, 1868, to Minor McCrary at Vernon in Van Buren county. Five children were born to this union as follows: Clarence Baxter of near Bonaparte; Myrtle Matilda, deceased; Thomas William, deceased; George Forrest of Springfield, Mo., and Mrs. Helen A. Riley of Chicago, the latter who so ably cared for her mother the last twelve years of her life.

Mrs. McCrary's husband was a civil war veteran and he was blind for the last 59 years of his life. He passed away Sept. 17, 1923.

She leaves two grandchildren, Keith McCrary of Bonaparte, and Mrs. Verle Pallman of California.

After the marriage of Mr. and Mrs. McCrary, they moved to a farm south of Vernon and lived there until he lost his eyesight and then moved to town. Practically her entire life has been spent in Van Buren county.

The deceased was a member of the Farmington Congregational church for many years. She was a woman with a friendly and neighborly disposition, having the interest of her husband family always in mind. She held a motherly and neighborly attitude toward her many friends and her neighbors. She was especially thoughtful of the unfortunate and those in sorrow and needing council could find help in her.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock in the Farmington Congregational church. Rev. Harvey E. Butler officiating. Interment in Vernon cemetery near Bentonsport.
