J.C. Wallis Dies at Home Last Evening
His Death was Sudden and was Due to an Attack of Heart Trouble, Which Occurred after He
Retired
J.C. Wallis, local manager of the Singer Sewing Machine Company’s Shop and the Art Shop died at his home, 1124 Blondeau Street, last night at 11:50 o’clock. His death was due to an attack of heart trouble, and his illness was of brief duration. He had been at his shop as usual yesterday, and felt as well as usual when he retired.
John Carr Wallis was born July 24, 1871 in Milton Iowa, and was the son of Henry D. and Catherine L. Wallis. He came to Keokuk when he was twenty-two years old, and had made his home here since. He was married in 1893 to in Dumas Missouri to Carrie Matheney, who survives him together with one son, Harry A. Wallis of Long Beach California and two grandchildren.
Mr. Wallis has been associated with business interests of Keokuk since he came here, and within the last few years opened an art shop in addition to his other interests.
Mr. Wallis was kind and affectionate and he made many friends, who will regret to learn of his passing. He was friendly and jolly in his nature and as a businessman was well known and respected.
In his church affiliations Mr. Wallis was a Methodist, and belonged to Trinity Church. Fraternally he was a member of the Knights of Pythias and of the Modern Woodmen.
Arrangements for the funeral have not been made as Mrs. Wallis is awaiting the arrival of her son from Long Beach before making any arrangements, The body will remain at the Keokuk Funeral Home until Tuesday, when further arrangements will be made.
