SAMUEL H. SHIPLEY

Samuel H. Shipley was born in Putnam Co., Ind., Sept. 15, 1842, and moved with his parents to Iowa in 1851, his residence thereafter being almost continuously in Van Buren county. Oct. 1, 1867, he was married to Martha E. Campbell. Eight children were born to this union, four boys and four girls, two of whom died in infancy. It can truly be said of the departed that he was a good man, a loving husband and father and a kind neighbor. He was honest and upright in all his dealings with his fellow men. He served during the war as a member of Co. G, Eleventh Iowa Infantry. He died January 30, 1908, at his home in Des Moines township. He leaves, besides his family, many relatives, friends and comrades who sincerely mourn his death. Rev. Thorn of Keosauqua preached the sermon. The burial was in the Prall cemetery, January 31. Following is a tribute of his comrades in Harper Post, G. A. R., of Keasauqua [sic]: [rest of obit cut-off]
