Anna Marie Spohnheimer was born at Ebstein, Germany, April 18, 1843. Her father having died, she came with her mother at the age of four years to this country and settled in Lee county, Iowa. On January 29, 1861, she was married to John Saar. In the year 1868 they moved to Van Buren county where they lived on a farm south of Cantril. In the year 1891 they left the farm and came to town where they spent twenty-three years--until the husband's decease, April 20, 1914. Since that time she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Kate Casady, where she departed this life at 11:30 p.m., May 7, 1916, being 73 years and 19 days of age.
She was the mother of eight children, six of whom survive her: two sons, Martin of Henderson, Iowa, and John of Cantril, Iowa; four daughters, Mrs. Mary Swank of Cantril, Iowa, Mrs. Rosa Roberts of Keosauqua, Iowa, Mrs. Emma Delaney of Loveland, Colorado, and Mrs. Kate Casady of Cantril, Iowa. There are twenty-six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A Christian from earliest childhood, her faith was clear and her life consistent. Her last illness was long and her suffering severe; yet her Christian fortitude and strong faith were clearly shown above it all. Death to her was passing into the clear realities of life eternal. Hers has been a life well lived; a rich heritage to those left behind. She has fought a good fight; she has kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon, May 10, at 3 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. I. N. Dens[?]ore. Interment was made in Maple Grove cemetery.
