OBITUARY
Alpheus Spencer Thompson, the son of Ninian and Elizabeth Thompson, was born Dec 1, 1859, near Cantril, Iowa. He died at his home, December 17, 1928, at the age of 69 years, 16 days. He moved to Scotland county, Mo., when a boy to the place where he has lived his entire life.
He was farried [sic] Nov. 4, 1883, to Ollie Kisling. To this union were born two sons and one daughter--Rilla Belle, who preceded him in death, August 29, 1912. Soon after they were married he united with the Baptist church, where he remained a aithful [sic] member. Mr. Thompson was always interested in the advancement of the cause of Christ, and as a huband [sic] and father he wa [sic] ever true and aithful [sic] to thoe [sic] who were near and dear. The outtanding [sic] element in his life was the fact that he had an intense love for his ellow [sic] man, and because of this he was greatly loved in return. All who knew him will always remefber [sic] him as being a friend in time of need, for the welfare of his neighbor was always more important than was his own.
He leaves to mourn his loss a faithful, hristian [sic] wife, Ollie Thompson, and two sons, Roy Glen and wife, and Walter Oren and wife, all of Ft. Madison, Iowa; seven grandhildren [sic], two great grandhildren [sic]; also two brothers--Hamilton Thompson of Arbela, Mo., and V. A. Thompson, of Oklahoma, besides a host of friends and neighbors.
The funeral was held at the Prairie View M. E. churh [sic], Dec. 19, 1928, the sermon being preached by Rev. C. K. Green, frof [sic] Memphis, Mo.
