MRS. LEROY MEREDITH

Susanna, daughter of Alexander and Lydia Mullin, was born in Sisterville, West Virginia, on August 12, 1828. When seven years of age she moved with her parents and ten brothers and sisters to Belleville, Saint Clair county, Illinois. There she grew to womanhood. She was educated in the subscription schools of the times. Her father and mother both being of Quaker persuasion, her early religious instruction was in the society of the Friends. However, in young womanhood, she, with her mother, joined the Presbyterian church. On March 21, 1858, she was married to LeRoy Merideth [sic] of Keosauqua and at the time of her death they lacked but one day of having been married forty-nine years. On coming to Keosauqua she united with the Methodist Episcopal church, of which she was a faithful member until she joined the church triumphant at God's right hand. She seems to have had premonitions of her translation and of late frequently expressed herself as expecting the change soon. She peacefully passed away late in the evening of March 20, 1907, at the age of 78 years, 6 months and 29 days. The deceased sister was the mother of six children. Two of them preceded her to the spirit world. Those still living are Harvey E., Ella M. Hillis, Anna B. Dibble and Lizze [sic] V. Besides these there are six grandchildren, a large number of other relatives and a host of friends who mourn her death. She was indeed a good woman and was loved by all her acquaintances.

Aunt Susan is at rest.
Peace be to her memory.

Funeral services, conducted by Prof. George L. Minear, of Mt. Pleasant, assisted by Rev. Hawk, the pastor, were held at her late home on the afternoon of March 22. The text used was Rev. 14:13. "I heard a voice from Heaven saying unto me, write, blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; yea, said the Spirit, for they rest from their labors and their works do follow them." The body was laid to rest in the Oak Lawn cemetery.
