Ida Marie Levis was born Oct. 26, 1922, in Eldon, Iowa, the daughter of Clair and Mabel (Milam) Ripley. She passed away Aug. 18, 1995, at her home in rural Allerton at the age of 72 years, nine months, 22 days.
Ida graduated from high school in Selma, Iowa, in 1941. She attended Parsons College in Fairfield, where she received her teaching certificate.
She was married before coming to Wayne County. To this marriage a daughter, Carol Ann Zeitler was born. After coming to Wayne County, Ida taught at Sewal and Warsaw schools.
In January, 1949, Ida was united in marriage to Everett Shriver, Jr., and to this union three daughters and one son were born. Her son died at four days old. She was a faithful and devoted wife until Everett's death in 1971.
In May of 1973, Ida married Merle Levis, who survives. Also surviving are her four daughters: Carol Ann Zeitler Chapman of Ankeny; Janet Auxier and husband Alan of Chariton; mary Jo McCabe and husband Jim of Oskaloosa; June Foster and husband Dale of Unionville, Mo. Five grandsons survive: Mark Chapman and wife Caryl of Urbandale; Billy Auxier of Chariton; Kody McCabe of Oskaloosa; Matthew and Marty Foster of Unionville, Mo. There is one granddaughter, Sheri Kish and husband Brian of Mt. Pleasant.
Also surviving are five sisters: Rosetta Wright, Betty Gatlin and Anne McClure, all of Ottumwa; Darlene Bradfield of Agency, Iowa; and Beulah Keast of Canada; four brothers: David Ripley of Perry, Iowa; Clair Ripley, Jr., of Arizona; James Ripley of South Carolina; Donald Ripley of Davenport; many other relatives and friends.
Ida was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Everett Shriver, Jr.; an infant son, James Everett Shriver; and two brothers.
Ida was a very caring person. She would go without so her family could have. She loved her grandkids and wished no harm to anyone. She was active in the church and with the Lions until her illness prevented her from helping. She will be truly missed by all.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug 21, 1995, at 1:30 p.m. from the Randolph Funeral Home, Allerton, with Pastor Leroy Perkins officiating. The song "Angles in Wings" was played. The hymns "Life's Railway to Heaven" and "The Old Rugged Cross" were sung by Milton Albertson, accompanied by Geannie Radcliffe, pianist.
Pallbearers were Gary Alley, John Forbes, jerry Brundage, Mark Chapman, Brian Moore and Ed Nash. Honorary bearers were Lance Levis, Fred Trumper, Leslie Auxier, Murray Shriver, Howard Levis and Delrein Levis.
Interment was in the Shriver Cemetery. Memorials were established to either the Allerton United Methodist Church or the Sewal United Methodist Church.
