Ottumwa-James Irwin Ripley, 64, No. Charleston, S.C., died Feb 24, 1998, at a local hospital.
He was born March 13, 1933, in New Boston, Ill. to Clair and Mabel Milam Ripley. He married Margaret Couch.
He was a high school graduate. He was retired from U.S. Navy; for 20 years Chief Machinist Mate, MMC; a member of Fleet Reserve; board of director of North Charleston United Methodist Church; He served in the U.S. Navy, Korea and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of North Charleston United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Frances Tower of Pittsfield, Mass. and Suzanne Glenn of Charleston, S.C.; seven grandchildren; five sisters, Rosie Wright, Betty Gatlin and Anna McClure all of Ottumwa; Darlene Bradfield of Neb. and Beulah Keast of Canada; and three brothers, Donald Ripley and Henry Ripley both of Iowa and Clair Ripley of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson; brothers George and Robert; and a sister, Ida Lewis.
The service will be 11 a.m. today at No. Charleston United Methodist Church in No. Charleston, S.C. Burial will be in Carolina Memorial Gardens.
