Frederick Grafton Adams, son of Frederick and Sarah Grafton Adams, was born in Bowling Green, Wood Co., Ohio, March 28th, 1829, and died at his home in Selma, Iowa, March 14th, 1908, aged 78 years, 11 months and 15 days. When he was two years old his parents moved to Holmes county, Ohio. In 1846 they came to Iowa, settling in Union township, Van Buren county, Iowa, later removing to Village township. He was one of the earliest teachers of the county, having taught in Lick Creek and Village townships as early as 1856. He was married to Elizabeth Reniker, August 28th, 1859. To them were born four children. Those living are Mrs. Leanah Strahn, Keokuk, Iowa, and Mrs. Rose Milan (Milam), and A.B. Adams, Selma, Iowa; one daughter, Edith May, dying in infancy. In the spring of 1866 he located in Independent (now Selma) and engaged in mercantile pursuits until 1876. In 1873 he was appointed postmaster, which office he held for 17 years. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, three children, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was the last of a family of 9 children. The funeral was held Sunday, March 15, at 2 p.m., in M.E. church at Selma, conducted by Rev. Wm. Hager, assisted by Rev. Jones. His remains were laid to rest in Iowaville cemetery.
