Allen Burgess Adams, was born November 18, 1865 near Selma, Iowa, and died at Benicia, Calif., Dec 11, 1929, aged 64 years 23 days. He was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. F.G. Adams pioneers of Van Buren county, Iowa. One sister, Mrs. Leanah Strahn of Keokuk survives him, another, Mrs. James Milan (Milam) preceded him in death.
When he was six months old his parents moved to Selma and that has been his place of residence. On June 6, 1889 he was married to Miss Minnie Nelson of Birmingham, Iowa, and they established their home in the little cottage at Selma. To this union one son was born, Frederick W. Adams, who has made his home in California since his marriage to Nellie M. Vandever, June 15, 1911. They have four children, Frederick, Jr., Audrey, Helen and Madeline.
Last summer the health of Mr. Adams began to decline and while under the doctors care it seemed to improve somewhat, yet he did not regain his oldtime vigor, and expressed a wish to spend the winter with the children in California. Preparations were made and on December 5, the journey was started. One happy day of reunion with Fred and family and in the evening having turned on the radio he sat down to enjoy the evening hours, in a few moments the stroke came from which he never rallied but lingered with us until Wednesday morning at 11:30 when his spirit took its flight to God who gave it.
All that loving hands could do made his last moments full of comfort as he often said he suffered no pain.
He was a member of Celestial Lodge, No. 413, A.F. & A.M., Douds, Iowa, and Red Cross Lodge, No. 29, K. of P., of Birmingham.
