James E. Forbes (1874-1921)

IN MEMORIAM

Died, last Thursday, September 1, 1921, James E. Forbes, while in the hay fields assisting a neighbor, Rob’t Montieth at the hour of 2 o’clock, p. m.

Mr. Forbes apparently was in enjoying good health. He ate a hearty dinner and seemed to enjoy his companions with the usual noon hour jests and left for the field where he was engaged in stacking shortly after the meal. Just as the work was progressing nicely James was noticed by one, that he had fallen to the ground and on examination, he was pronounced dead, caused by heart failure.

The deceased was born in Keosauqua, Iowa, February, 1874, being 47 years of age at the time of his death.

Mr. Forbes came to Colorado on his 18th birthday, 29 years ago. He returned to Keosauqua in March 1899 and the 16th of March was married to Mary L. Kerr of that city.

Besides a devoted wife, he leaves two children, son Hollis, 19, and daughter Florence, 13 years.

Services were held at the Baptist church, Rev. W. A. Goudie, of Hooper officiating, interment Hillside cemetery, Saguache, Saturday afternoon.

The business places were all closed during the funeral hour from two to three.
