Hollis Loren Forbes, son of James and Mary Kerr Forbes, was born at Saquache [sic], Colorado, June 1, 1902 and passed away at his home in Fairfield, Jan. 17, 1938, following an operation a month before for mastoids.

In 1925 he moved to Mt. Pleasant where for many years he made his home with his mother and sister. He was marrid [sic] to Miss Louva Hourihan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Hourihan of Salem, Iowa, July 29, 1930. For some time they resided at Salem where he was employed in the post office. Since 1936 he has been employed at the Louden Machinery company at Fairfield, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, who died in infancy.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Mrs. Louva Forbes, Fairfield; one sister, Miss Florence Forbes, Mt. Pleasant; two aunts, Mrs. Addie Kutcher, Keosauqua and Mrs. Effie Crane, Mt. Pleasant; and three uncles, S. C. Kerr, Fairfield; Byron Forbes, Salt Lake City, Utah; Cleve Forbes, Saquache [sic], Colorado, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Salem Congregational church, Jan. 19, at 2:30 o’clock. The men of the department of the Louden factory and in which Mr. Forbes was an electric welder, attended the services in a body as well as members of the Salem O. E. S. Chapter.

The abundance of beautiful flowers and the large number of persons present were symbolic of the esteem and love of the many friends of Hollis and his family. The Rev. Gilbert Vorhees, pastor of the Fairfield Presbyterian church, read a number of portions of the scripture and music was played on the piano by Mrs. Vorhees.

Interment was in the South cemetery at Salem. The pallbearers, who were close friends, were Ralph Coppoch, Iowa City; Ted Jerrell, Ed Caldwell, Mt. Pleasant; H. B. Gentry, Fairfild [sic]; Wilbur Watts and Ralph White, Salem.
