DEATH OF MRS WM. McBETH

Mrs. William McBeth, who had been in feeble health for a long time, passed quietly away, at her home, Thursday evening, February 19th, at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 29 days. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. C. E. Perkins, assisted by Rev. Mr. Behrens. The burial was in Purdom cemetery.

Phoebe H. Trimble was a native of Rockville, Muskingum county, Ohio, where she was born Sept. 30, 1836. She was the youngest of nine children and survived them all. Her father, John Trimble, was an early settler and prominent citizen of that part of the country, and came from Chester county, Penn. in 1814. He was a member of the Ohio Legislature contemporaneously with David Todd, afterwards Governor of the State. The Trimbles had been in America since 1719, at which date, James Trimble, born in Freland, England, Midsummer Eve, 1707, crossed the ocean to cast his lot with a new country. On her mother's side, Mrs. McBeth was a member of the Harlan family, and her family Bible, which gives the Trimble genealogy back to 1707, as stated above, records the lineage of the Harlans from 1755. They were of the same stock as the line from which descended James Harlan, Iowa's distinguished Senator.

Phoebe Trimble was a graduate of a young ladies' seminary at New Concord, Ohio, and taught school for some years after her graduation. Until her marriage to Capt. McBeth, which took place at Zanesville, 12th September, 1906, her home had always been in Muskingum county. She came, with her husband, immediately to Keosauqua, after marriage and her home has since been here. Although born of Quaker parents, Phoebe early united with the Baptist church, and remained a devoted member of it all her life. Since living in Keosauqua she has attended the Congregational church. She was a person of beautiful Christian character, and retained many of the attractive ways inherited from her Quaker ancestry. All who knew her held her in high esteem.
