CAPT. WM. McBETH ANSWERED THE FINAL SUMMONS SATURDAY, MAY 26

The funeral of Capt. William McBeth, whose death occurred at a few minutes past midnight Saturday morning, took place in the Congregational church Sunday afternoon at three o'clock. The edifice was filled with people from all walks in life, eager to testify thus to the esteem in which this long-time resident was held. The services were shared at the church with the Grand Army ritual, and at the grave the burial liturgy of the Free Masons was used. Rev. C. E. Perkins, Capt. McBeth's pastor, had the services in charge and made the address. He was assisted by Rev. J. C. Behrens of the M. E. church. A choir composed of Mesdames S. W. Manning and Oscar McCrary and Messrs C. K. Miller and Oscar McCrary sang; Mrs. C. K. Miller accompanying at the instrument. The floral offerings were numerous and fitting.

Capt. McBeth was 77 years, 7 months and 18 days old. He was born in Springfield, Ohio, Oct. 8, 1839, and was the eldest of six children of John and Rachel Kenton McBeth. His mother was a great-grand-niece of the famous frontier scout Simon Kenton, whose name and adventures are so intimately interwoven with the annals of the Northwest Territory and early years of Ohio.

Of the [can't read-s/b six?] children five were boys; and of these four served in the Union ranks in the Civil war. The sister, Mrs. Jennie Fowler, is still living in Cincinnati, Ohio; but the brothers had all preceded Capt. McBeth in death.
