Dr. H. E. Bowman, whose death occurred at Farmington Monday evening, April 29, at the advanced age of nearly 94 years, was during his active life one of the prominent citizens of Van Buren county. He was born in Virginia Aug. 17, 1818, graduated at the University of Maryland in 1839, and came to this county in 1860. He was a practicing physician, practicing in Virginia and after he came to Iowa. He was also a merchant at Farmington a number of years and also at Mt. Sterling, the store at the latter place being conducted by his sons, W. H., George and Charley. Dr. Bowman was a man of culture, of polished manners and geniality -- a gentleman of the old school, as we say. Dr. Bowman had lived with his daughter, Mrs. Jas. W. Lapsley, for many years. The funeral was held Wednesday, May 1.
