EVAN FELLOWS

Evan Fellows, son of William and Matilda Fellows, was born on Vernon Prairie, near Keosauqua, on August 22, 1859, and departed this life at his home in Leando May 7, 1926, aged 66 years, 8 months and 15 days.

In his boyhood ihs [sic] parents moved to the Zion neighborhood, where he attended school and grew to manhood. It was during these early years that he was converted and united with the Zion M.E. church, beginning a life-time of active service. He served in every official capacity of the home church, devoting many years as superintendent of the Sunday School.

On November 3, 1887, he united in marriage with Mrs. Emma J. Duffield. Two children were born to them: Mrs. Ethel Park of West Burlington and Fred D. Fellows of Keosauqua.

They moved to Leando in 1916, where Mrs. Fellows departed this life July 14, 1921.

On May 24, 1922, he was married to Mrs. Mary Lee of Keosauqua, who with the son and daughter survive him.

Of his generation he was the third to pass away. Two brothers, Homer H. and Dr. Clay D., having preceded him. Five brothers: Ocee of Fruita, Colorado; Edwin of Chicago; Ray, Theo and Asa of Keosauqua; three sisters, Mrs. Lena Beggs of Perry, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Jamison of Hedrick, Iowa; Mrs. Lizzie Heckart of Lawrence, Kansas; and many other relatives and a host of friends mourn his departure.

A noble father, a devoted husband, a loyal citizen, a true friend, a wise counsellor in the affairs of the church, has gone from us. We shall miss him much.

Funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. W.J. Hamilton, in the Leando M.E. church Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Interment was made in the Fellows cemetery south of Keosauqua.

Karen DaPra Note: You can imagine my surprise when I discovered that the FELLOWS family of Iowa is connected to my Fellows family of Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. Evan's mother (Matilda Ann Peterson) is connected to a totally different family line. This means two different lines of my ancestors knew each other! I need to find out more information on the FELLOWS family of Iowa, PLEASE contact me! Karen DaPra.
