MRS. SOPHIA OWENS DIED MONDAY A. M.

Mrs. Sophia Owens, one of Cantril's pioneers passed away at her home here Monday morning about 9 o'clock, May 29th, 1916, after two weeks' sickness. Mrs. Owens was the wife of Louis Owens and was born in Macklinburg, Germany, April 17, 1835, being 81 years, 1 month and 12 days old at the time her death. She was the mother of Mrs. J. J. Magorian of this place and the sister of Mrs. Mary Pundt, also of Cantril. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church yesterday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. I. N. Densmore. Interment was made in Maple Grove cemetery.

Sophia Taeglar was born in Macklinburg, Germany, April 17, 1835, and died at her home at Cantril, Iowa, May 29th, 1916, aged 81 years, 1 month and 12 days.

She came with her parents to America November 20, 1856. They settled in Fort Plain, New York, where she was married to Louis Owens December 5, 1856.

They came to Keosauqua the same year and settled in Des Moines township, Van Buren county, and moved to Cantril in 1889.

To this union was born five children; three of which died in infancy, and Frank lived to the age of twenty-four when he passed into that great beyond.

She leaves her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Mary Magorian of Cantril, two grand-children and five great-grand-children; one sister, Mrs. Pundt of Cantril and one half-brother, Fred Taegler of Murray, Iowa.

She has been a member of the M. E. church for a great number of years.
