W. N. McMANIS

William Newton McManis, eldest son of John and Charlotte McManis, was born near Milton, Iowa, in Van Buren county, Nov. 10, 1856. He has always lived within a few miles of his birthplace.

He was united in marriage to Alice Duncan Jan. 13, 1877. To this union were born three sons, Karl, Lee and Clay, all living near Cantril.

Mr. McManis professed his faith in Christ and united with the Christian church in the fall of 1878. since that time he has always been a member in good standing. During the later years of his life he was not able to attend services very often on account of his failing health, and also that of his wife.

Mr. and Mrs. McManis have always had a beautiful home life and much time was spent in the home. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on Jan. 13, 1928.

William N. McManis departed this life March-, [sic] 1928, aged 72 years, 3 months and 21 days. Besides his devoted wife he leaves to mourn their loss three sons, Karl, Lee and Clay, all of Cantril, two sisters, Mrs. Ella Criol of Memphis, Mo.; and Mrs. Delpha Corrick of St. Augustine, Fla., one brother, George Washington McManis, the other brother, Charles having preceded him in death; also nine grandchildren and other distant relatives and a host of neighbors and friends.

Life's race well run,
Life's work well done,
Life's crown well won--
Now comes rest.

The funeral service was conducted by Rev. W. A. Jacobs, assisted by Rev. Smith of Cantril. After the funeral service the body was laid to rest in the Cantril cemetery.
