AGED VAN BUREN COUNTY RESIDENT DIED MONDAY, NOVEMBER 19

Miss Bina Holder, aged about 80 years, died at her home at Azen about six o'clock Monday morning, November 12th [sic].

Miss Holder was one of the pioneers of Scotland county. She was born a few miles northwest of Azen, and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Flave Holder, early settlers in that part of the county.

For many years she has conducted a small store at Azen, and formerly had a store at Prospect Grove. Several years ago she clerked in the dry goods store in Memphis owned by Grimes Carder. Miss Holder was living with her sister at Azen at the time of her death. She discontinued her store a few months ago and had not been in business recently.

She was well known to many people of this county, and her death will be universally regretted by her old neighbors and friends in the northeast part of the county.

The funeral services were conducted at the home and at the Prairie View church, Tuesday afternoon, at two o'clock, by Rev. Arthur S. Olsen, of Memphis, assisted by Mrs. Olsen. There was an unusually large crowd at the funeral. Burial was in the cemetery there.

The choir of the Prairie View church sang three selections. The pall bearers were John Hilpert, George Schirch, Winnie Long, Clarence Kittle, Rolla Bowman and Fred Nelson.

Albina Holder, daughter of Flavius J. and Marian Holder, was born in Virginia, July 3, 1849.

At the age of 7 years she came with her parents to Scotland county, where she has continuously resided since. Early in life she united with the Methodist Protestant church at Mt. Moriah, and in later years transferred her membership to the Prairie View Methodist church. She had a warm place in her heart for children and no woman in the neighborhood was loved any better by the children than Bina Holder.

She leaves three sisters: Sylphia Holder, Mary Ellen Carter, both of Azen, Maggie Rolloff [could be Rolioff], of Milton, Iowa; and Frank Wellington, the boy who has made his home with them from childhood.
