DEATH OF GRANVILLE DAGGS

Granville Daggs, son of A. J. and Sarah Marshall Daggs, was born on Nov. 7, 1848, on a farm 5 miles north of Arbela, Missouri, in Scotland county, and died at his home on North Main street, Memphis, Mo., February 24, 1929, aged 80 years, 3 months and 17 days. He was converted in early life and united with the Protestant Methodist church near his home where he held membership until moving to Memphis, in 1911. He then transferred his membership to the Presbyterian church. He was married to Miss Laura C. Biggs of Scotland county, Mo., on April 29, 1873. They settled in a home near the parental home where they lived until 1911. No children were born to this union, but their life was given to the care of children who needed a home. They first took two children of Rev. and Mrs. Wiggins, who were left motherless at the age of 4 and 6 years. They raised them to manhood and womanhood. Ethel died at the age of 23 years and Bert Wiggins is living at Long Beach, Calif. Later in life they took into their home two nieces of Mrs. Daggs, namely, Irma and Anna Biggs, and cared for them until they went into homes of their own. In January, 1917, they again took Irma, then Mrs. Ira Davis, and her five children into the home and cared for them until the present time. Mrs. Daggs died in June, 1922, and since that time Mr. Daggs had gradually failed in health. On February 19, 1929, he suffered a stroke of paralysis from which he could not recover. He was carefully and tenderly cared for during his declining years by Mrs. Irma Davis and her children. He leaves one brother, Columbus Daggs of Scotland county. Also three nephews and two nieces, and many other relatives and friends.

He was president of the Scotland County National Bank of Memphis since January 1895--a director since 1879 and a charter stockholder since 1872.
