MRS. J. W. ROWLEY

Amanda M. Thompson, daughter of David and Mahala Thompson, was born Oct. 27, 1849, near Buford, Highland county, Ohio. She was next to the youngest of thirteen children, only two of whom survive her, namely Albert Thompson of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Mrs. Maggie Wilson of Corning, Iowa. The latter has been an invalid for some time and hence was deprived the privilege of visiting her sister during her short illness or of attending the funeral.

The parents moved from Ohio in 1857 and settled on a farm near Keosauqua, later moved to near Bonaparte. There they reared their children and there the father passed away a number of years ago, the mother dying later at the home of her daughter Mrs. J. W. Rowley in Keosauqua.

Miss Amanda Thompson was married at the parental home to John W. Rowley, Oct. 27, 1868, her birthday. For some years they lived on the parental Rowley farm near Stockport, and there their four children were born, viz: Roland B., Lena A., Frank W. and Clinton C. The daughter died when a baby. After having served two terms as county superintendent of schools, the husband bought a half interest in the KEOSAUQUA REPUBLICAN, his partner being Joshua S. Sloan. Soon after, or in 1879, the family moved to Keosauqua, where they spent their remaining years. The husband passed away Sept. 7, 1921, and his wife followed in less than two years.

Mrs. Rowley was reared in a christian home, her father being a minister of the gospel, and founder of the Christain [sic] church in Keosauqua. She was a life-long member of the Christian church. She was also an active member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, the order of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of Rebekah.
