MRS. HINKLE, SAGUACHE DEAD

Was Member of Well Known Pioneer Family – Husband is in Insane Asylum

Mrs. Lewis Hinkle a member of one of the old original families of Saguache county died at her home in Saguache at 7 o’clock yesterday morning after a lingering illness of several month’s duration. The remains were shipped last night to Keosauqua, Iowa to be interred beside those of a sister. Heart disease and a complication of ailments is given as the immediate cause of her death.

She is survived by her husband Lewis Hinkle who was adjudged insane about a year ago and was sent to the insane asylum, where he is at this time. He is in the hospital ward at that place, and has not been notified of the death of his wife.

Mrs. Hinkle had been in poor health for almost a year. At times her condition would improve and her physician held out some hope that she might perminately recover, however she has been confined to her bed during the greater part of the time during the past year.

She is a daughter of Andrew Forbes, a resident of this county, and who was one of the pioneers of Saguache county, coming to this section of the state even before the first trail was broken. Of this pioneer family there were six children of which Mrs. Hinkle is the oldest. In the family were four boys and two girls. Of the six, four brothers are living and a sister died a number of years ago. Theree brothers, Wm. Forbes, James Forbes and Grover Forbes live in the county, while Byron Forbes is a resident of another state. Besides these relatives she is survived by a number of distant relatives.

Mrs. Hinkle was 50 years, 6 months and 2 days old. When quite a young woman she was united in marriage with Lewis Hinkle. No children were born to this union. Funteral services were conducted from the Methodist church yesterday afternoon Rev. Coberly officiating. The church edifice was filled to overflowing by mourning relatives and friends who gathered around the bier of the departed relative and friend.

She had been a resident of Saguache county for a number of years, where by her winning ways she gathered around her a host of friends. She was associated with many of the best movements in her home town and always held a high place in the hearts and lives of all who knew her.
