Sarah Ann Beattie Glandon
Was born April 26, 1829 near Pittsburgh, Washington Co., Pennsylvania, and departed this life November 12, 1911. She was married to William R. Glandon, August 21, 1856. To this union was born one child dying in infancy. She was united with the Presbyterian Church early in youth and was a faithful Christian until the end. Since the dearth of her husband two years ago, she has made her home with her step daughter, Mrs. Kate Cupp, of Union township, Wan Buren Co., where she passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus. She was very fond of quoting scripture and during her last illness while her mind wandered, she was quoting Bible verses and singing hymns, and when she could not speak she hummed the tune "Jesus Lover of My Soul."
Since coming to Iowa in 1865, she has been a member of the Presbyterian Church, uniting at Middletown and later at Mt. Pleasant. She loved the house of God and when ever her health would permit, she loved to be there. Funeral services were held November 14, at Millers Chapel, conducted by the Rev. L. V. Nash of Birmingham. The many friends of the deceased and her family attended the services and in loving sympathy united their hearts in the true though of faith in which our sister has lived and in which she died the happy death of the righteous soul, and thus the great shepherd of the sheep is gathering his chosen and loved ones home. Looking upon such a life of triumphant faith and loving works, we may thank God and take courage for faith in Christ, does give victory over sin and death. Even now we may say 'O death where is thy sting, O grave where is thy victory;?
