Obituary of Mary E. Hootman
Mary Elizabeth Hootman, daughter of William and Margaret Nelson Hootman, was born April 10, 1849, near Mt. Zion, Oct. 15, 1928, being 79 years, 6 months and 16 days of age.
She is survived by the following relatives, Vermil of Birmingham, Jacob C., John and Ella R. at the home, besides nieces and nephews. She has been cared for by her sister Ella in her declining years. The father, mother, brothers Wilson, Joseph, James, Hugh and sister Anne have preceded her in death.
She became a member of the United Presbyterian church in the year of 1878 and has ever been a faithful servant to the God in whom she put her trusr. She was honest and respected by all who knew her. The hospitality shown by her in her time will be long remembered by the host of friends and acquaintances.
She began teaching school in the year if 1866 after attendiing Wolfe's Academy and taugh for years, teaching 97 terms in all. The fertile praries of this county wre mostly covered with timber when she began her life work and she has seen many changes in her life time. Hre many scholars praise her for the good example she set before them. She was always happy to greet a friend and to visit with them. She will be greatly missed by this community where she has spent her entire life as well as in the home.
The funeral services was held at the Mt. Zion Presbyterian church on Friday afternoon at ----in charge of Rev. H. C. ---ine (Stine?). The Williams Quartet sang several appropriate selections. Internment in the Miller Chapel Cemetery.
