Maria Francis Boyer relict of the late David W. Boyer and familiarly known as Grandma Boyer has after a long and busy life laid down its burden and another of Van Buren county pioneers has gone from our midst. She quietly passed away Monday morning Aug. 12, 1901, at the ripe old age of 89 years 9 months and 8 days, having been born in Ohio Nov. 4, 1811 and survived her husband by nearly 20 years. She was married Nov. 7 1830 and came with her husband and 14 children to Farmington in the fall of 1854. Mrs. Boyer was the mother of 16 children and was herself the 22 child in a family of 24.
She was a loyal member of the Baptist church for 59 years and was always found in her place at church when able to be there. There remain to mourn her decease 10 children, 59 grand children, 34 great-grand-children and a host of neighbors and friends who will long remember her as a good neighbor and faithful friend, so that she "being dead yet speaketh."
Funeral services were conducted in the Baptist church by her pastor, Thomas Ratcliffe assisted by Revs. Hatton and Wehn Wednesday Aug. 14 1901. The body was tenderly laid to rest beside that of her husband in Greenglade cemetery.
