************************************
It becomes our sad duty this week to record the death of two of our older settlers, T. H. Hopkins and Alexander Cummings, Sr. Both were well-known characters in our city and have a host of friends who sincerely mourn their departure. It is with regret that we note the passing of these men. They were good citizens and willing workers in redeeming our beautiful country and making it teem with prosperity. They were genial, kindly man and will be sadly missed by our citizens. Peace be unto them.
************************************
Mr. Thomas H. Hopkins died at his home in this city Thursday morning, July 25th, at 6 15 o'clock at the advanced age of 78 years 7 months and 3 days--and the flame of this eventful life flickered and then peacefully went out.

Thomas Hopkins was born in Hillsboro, Delaware, December 24, 1822. At the age of seven years he was left an orphan and was then taken into the home of an uncle were he resided until grown. When seventeen years of age he began as an apprentice and learned the shoemaker's trade.

In 1848 he married Miss Hannah J. Jones and seven children blessed the union, five of whom with the wife survive him and deeply mourn the loss of a husband and father.

Mr. Hopkins with his family came to this state in 1849 and he engaged in business and has continued here since with the exception of a few years. He was one of the eight charter members of the Bonaparte lodge No. 73, A. F. and A. M. and continued an active and enthusiastic worker in this order until his death. He had filled the position of martial at almost all Masonic funerals at this place for the period of thirty-five years.

The services were conducted at the home on Saturday afternoon and were in charge of the home lodge of Masons.

The children are Mrs. Fidelia Kerr, Butte, Mont.; Mrs. Josephine Spruance, Denver, Col.; Mrs. Ida Sweeney, Bonaparte, Thos. H. Hopkins, Council Bluff, Iowa and Charles B. Hopkins of Butte, Mont.

The sympathy of a large circle of friends are with the bereaved ones.
