OBITUARY
This community was startled on last Saturday morning by the news of the sad and unexpected death of Mrs. Lillie E. Skinner.
Deceased was the daughter of Capt. Wm. H. Randall. She was born in Birmingham, May 23rd, 1861; and consequently borne to an untimely grave.
She united with the M.E. Church at this place on probation, Feb. 28th, 1878, and continued in that relation to the Church until her death.
She was married to Geo. N. Skinner, April 5th, 1879.
Her whole life has been spent in Birmingham and vicinity, where, by her genial; disposition, probity of character and brightness of intellect, when won for herself a host of admiring friends, as was evidenced by the large concourse of people assembled to follow her to her tomb. Her funeral sermon was preached by her pastor, Rev. Jas Hunter. Hunter, from Luke, 8th chapter and 52nd verse, to one of the largest audiences that has ever been assembled in Birmingham.
If the expression of the countenance after death gives any indication of the then state of the Soul, we may safely predict "She is not dead but sleepeth;" but her noble life and Christian character give still more certain hope that she has gone "To be with Christ; which is far better."
Many of her admirers here, while they drop a tear of sorrow over the tomb, offer up sincere prayers that sustaining grace may be given to all her relatives, but especially to her young and devoted husband, who has been so soon called upon to pass through the deep waves of sorrow and sadness.
She left a little babe, and it hoped that it would live to comfort and bereaved friends. But it was only loaned, and He who said, "suffer little children to come unto me," took it into his fold. The mother was buried on Sunday, and on Tuesday the grave was opened and the babe buried in the arms of its mother.
