Dean Dooley, son of Edward and Clara Bevier Dooley, was born February 26, 1911 near Selma and departed this life at 4:00 a.m. Friday, March 17, 1995 at his home in Fairfield, at the age of 84. Dean graduated from Selma High School in 1928, spent his active life farming in the Selma-Douds community, and retired to Fairfield in 1976. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Fairfield, had served on the Douds School Board, Van Buren County Farmers Home Administration board, Mt. Moriah Cemetery board, including several years as president, and assisted with the Meals on Wheels program in Fairfield. Remaining to cherish his memory are his wife, the former Bessie Kunzman, their son, Dwain and his wife, Jane of Fairfield, their daughter, Janet Gilchrist and her husband Kenneth of Douds, 5 grandchildren, Deanna Harrison, Ann Gookin, Karen Rowe, Lora Colter, and Kyle Gilchrist, 9 great grandchildren, a step great grandchild, 2 sisters, Gwendolene Lepper of Selma and Melva McClure of Bloomfield, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gale and 2 sisters, Gleda Davis and Lorean Lynch. A memorial was established for Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
