Roxanne Beatrice Kerr was born in Bonaparte, Iowa, July 30, 1881, and passed away to the Great Beyond Thursday afternoon March 20, 1919, aged 37 years, 7 months and 20 days. Childhood, girlhood, and womanhood have succeeded one another in the community where her life went out. She is remembered as a lighthearted lovable girl, always surrounded by friends. She attended the public schools here, graduating in the class of 1899 in the high school. On October 15, 1902, she was united in marriage with William H. Long and aside from a few years residence in Wichita, Kansas, and Chicago, Illinois, their home has been in Bonaparte where they have always taken an active part in affairs of the town. To this marriage one son, Callen H. was born upon whom she lavished the care and devotion that only a loving mother can. December 6, 1911, she united with the Baptist Church here where as a child she had attended S.S. and church. Those who know her best will remember her as a faithful, earnest Christian, one upon whom you could depend for any service. At the time of her ilness over a year ago she was holding several important offices in the church and S.S. where she has been greatly missed. Because of the cheerful interested way she received all her friends during her sickness it has been hard to realize how she has suffered; because she never complained and met everyone smilingly; her death came as a shock and sorrow to all. Besides the father and mother in whose home she passed away, and the husband and son who have done everything devoted love and care could do to restore her to health and strength, she leaves four brothers; George and Wayne of Bonaparte; Arlie C. of Chicago, Ill.; and William B. of Tacoma, Washington. One sister Daisy Nell Rigsby preceded her in death in August 1912. And so a beautiful life has passed on leaving behind it an influence that is permanent and memories that will never fade. Such lives as hers are not in vain and are an inspiration to those who are left. In Christ's words "She is not dead but sleepeth". Funeral services were held at the home of her father and mother on Sunday afternoon, Rev. Coppoe preaching, and music by a male quartet, Messrs. Mosier, Wolfe, Lorton and Petit. Interment in Bonaparte Cemetery.
