The Rex Morrison family, of Algona, were week end guests at the Bert Morrison and Frank Heaton homes.

Stockport school will be closed on Thursday and Friday of this week to enable the teachers to attend Southeastern Iowa Teacher's meeting in Burlington.

Miss Ruth Pickard, a student at American Institute of Commerce in Davenport, spent the week end with her parents, Supt. and Mrs. Pickard and sister, June.

Miss Virginia Dodds is an assistant secretary to the Van Buren County Draft board, during the vacation of the regular secretary.

Mrs. Silas Gregory is seriously ill in Jefferson county hospital with little hope of recovery.

Van Peck, who has worked on the Van Buren county roads for the past several years, has resigned that position and leased the Mobilgas station here, which he will operate. Lester Workman has leased the Texaco station which will continue to be operated by Valvert Fleming. Both of these stations have been under the management of Edgar Morris for the past few months, but ill health has compelled him to dispose of the business and seek a different climate. He and his wife and two sons, Billy and Wayne, are planning to leave here sometime this month for Arizona. Their daughters, Annabelle and LaVerne will remain in Iowa, both being employed in Keosauqua.

Mr. Wilson Lane, who is a surgical patient at St. Joseph hospital, Ottumwa, is improving nicely.

Junior Pratt who is studying television and radio in Chicago, spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Perry Pratt.

Mr. and Mrs. John Kisling spent Saturday in Moravia with their daughter, Mrs. William Young and family.

Roy Crawford has purchased the residence from John Warner now occupied by the Eb Dodds family. His mother, Mrs. Anna Crawford, plans to move into the residence about Dec. 1st. The Crawford farm, north of town, has been rented to Harold Else.

Mrs. Dick Silver entertained at a 6 o'clock dinner at the Jake Silver home Monday evening as a surprise courtesy to her father-in-law. The guests were, Floyd Johnston, Roy Davidson, Volley Wright, Dick Workman, Henry Bailey, Jim Weiler, Worthy Beswick and the honoree, Jack Silver. Cards were the evening diversion.
