This indenture made and entered into this seventh day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty nine by and between Henry Heffleman and Malina Heffleman his wife of the County of Van Buren and State of Iowa of the first part and David Washington Crawford of the county of Lee and State of Iowa of the second part witnesseth that the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars of lawful money of the United States to them in hand paid by the said party of the second part the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged have given granted bargained sold aliened assigned enfeoffed and conveyed and by these presents do give grant bargain sell alien assign enfeoff and convey unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns a certain lot or piece of ground lying and being situated in the County of Van Buren and State of Iowa known and described as follows viz: being twenty acres of the South end of the west half of the South East quarter of Section fourteen Township sixty eight North of Range eight west To have and to hold the above described lot or parcel of ground together with all and singular the priveleges or appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining to the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns to and for their own proper use behoof and benefit forever And the said partys of the first part for themselves their heirs executors and administrators do hereby covenant and agree to and with the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever to warrant and defend the title to the above described premises against the claim or claims of any and all persons claiming by through or under them the said party of the first part and against the claim or claims of any and all persons whatsoever and that they the said party of the first part are the only true and lawful owners of the said premise and that the same are free from all and all manner of incumbrances.

Before me the undersigned a Justice of the Peace in and for the County aforesaid personally came Henry Heffleman + Malina his wife known to me to be the real persons by whom and in whose names the foregoing deed is subscribed and by whom and in whose names the same is proposed to be acknowledged who then acknowledged their signatures thereto to be their free and voluntary act and deed for the purposes therein expressed, And the said Malina being by me first examined separately and apart from her husband and the content of said conveyance being first made known to her acknowledged that freely and voluntarily and without compulsion or coersion from her husband she executed the same and forever relinquished her right of Dower to the premises in said deed namedGiven under my hand and seal this 7th day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty nine
