----------------------------------------------Mr. Brown was released to the care of the Iowa Childrens Home Society and we do have a record for him. As Mr. Brown’s adoption occurred prior to 1941, we are permitted to release the information we have on file. Of course, this is information that was given to us at the time of the adoption and, in many cases, it is incomplete. There is a $50 charge to cover the cost of locating the adoption record (we have over 10,000 records), gathering the non-identifying information, and creating a report for you.
Attached is a copy of a “Request for Adoption Information” form for completion by a relative of the adopted person and returned to me with $50 to cover costs. It is essential that the Request for Adoption Information form be notarized. If you have any additional questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Also, in your search for information you may request medical and developmental history by contacting the Clerk of Court located in the county your adoption took place. Also, please note that the National Archives, state and local archives, libraries, and genealogical organizations have a wealth of information that supplements decennial census records. This information includes colonial and state censuses, mortality records, immigration records, obituaries, etc. For more information, visit your local library to inquire about their holdings and the availability of local records.
