Creston, Iowa | Age 83

Dale Huber, 83, of Creston died Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2016 at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Rev. Jim Morris will officiate. Flag presentation will be performed by Theodore J. Martens Post #1797 of Creston.

Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery by Jerusalem United Methodist Church.

Open visitation will be 2-5:00 p.m. Thursday, January 14, 2016, at Powers Funeral Home in Creston.

Memorials are to the Jerusalem United Methodist Church.

Leland Dale Huber was born April 20, 1932 in Sharpsburg, IA to Ernest Huber and Nellie (Kerns) Huber. He attended school in a country school at Sharpsburg before moving with his parents to Diagonal, where he graduated in 1951. As a young man, Dale enjoyed roller skating and square dancing.

After graduating he worked with his older brothers, Darrell and Dwayne doing mason work. Dale was drafted in the U.S. Army on October 23, 1952 and was sent to Korea, where he served until being honorably discharged on October 13, 1954.

On April 4, 1955, he was united in marriage to Rebecca E. Bennett at the Lenox Methodist Church and two sons were born to this union. They moved to a farm in 1957 where Dale began his life long career of farming.

He was a member of the Jerusalem United Methodist Church

Survivors include his wife Rebecca E. Huber of Creston; two sons, Melvin (wife Sheri) Huber of Harlan and Wayne Huber of Creston; two grandchildren, Carol (husband Aaron) Omtvedt of Waseca, Minn.and Dr. Daniel (wife Gabrielli) Huber of Albany, N.Y.; two great-granddaughters Ava and Stella Omtvedt; one step great-grandson Timothy Gorospe; sister-in-law Roberta Shock, Pekin, Ill.;along with an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Darrell and Cecil, sisters Opal, Helen and Waunita and brother-in-law Jess Shock.
