Naomi Mary Dunphy was born July 10, 1918 in Afton on her parents' farm, to Carl Francis Miller and Bertha Mae (Moffitt) Miller. She attended country school and graduated from Afton High School in 1936. Naomi married Thomas Eugene Dunphy on September 11, 1939 at St. Edward's Catholic Church in Afton. She and Gene farmed east of Creston for 38 years. As a farm wife, Naomi spent many hours tending a large garden and canning vegetables for her family. Naomi was a member of Catholic Daughters and Holy Spirit Parish. She enjoyed volunteering her time working at the Rectory Rerun and the Creston Congregate Meal Site.
Naomi is survived by her children: Ron (Dottie) and Tom (Charlene), both of Creston; Sharon Soderburg (Tom Mullen) and Mary James (Jerry) of Denver, Colorado; Grandchildren: Todd (Susan), Tim (Allison) and Danna Buls, all of Creston; Dana Dunphy of Des Moines; Sean (Deanne) of Council Bluffs; TJ of Griswold, Stephanie Soderburg, Matt (Alisha) James and Jennifer (Chad) Koerlin, all of Denver, Colorado, and 15 great-grandchildren, Colton, Amy, Sydney, Samantha, Kylee and Kara, Austin, Brian and Henry Dunphy, Devon and Daniel Buls, Ella, Ava and Ruby James and Owen Koerlin.
Naomi was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, her parents, grandson, Thomas Eugene Dunphy II, two brothers, Leonard and Howard Miller, three sisters-in-law, Irma Miller, Margaret Hanrahan and Loretta Dunphy and brother-in-law, Ed Hanrahan.
Naomi entered rest on April 22, 2015. Celebration of life services were held on April 25, 2015 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with Fr. Ken Halbur, officiating, with interment at Calvary Cemetery.
