Raymond Fleharty, 77, of Creston passed away August 9, 2012 at his home in Creston. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, August 13 at the Powers Funeral Home at the junction of highways 34 and 25 in Creston. Tim Haynie will officiate the service. Burial will be at the Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Military rites will be done by Theodore J. Martens Post #1797 of Creston. Open visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday with family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Memorials are to be established. Raymond Marion Fleharty, son of Vernon Ernest Fleharty and Opal May (Anderson) Fleharty was born October 17, 1934 in Creston. Raymond attended Creston High School. Raymond served his country in the U.S. Navy from February 19, 1952 to September 22, 1955 during the Korean War. On November 4, 1956 Raymond was united in marriage to Shirley Marie McGinnis in Creston. After marriage they moved to California for 3 years and drove a truck for National Cylinder Gas delivering oxygen before moving back to Creston. Raymond worked construction, was the manager for APCO gas station. Later he was self-employed where he mowed yards, pushed snow and plowed gardens. He was a member of Eagles Lodge 1398 of Creston and Creston VFW Post 1797.

Raymond is survived by: wife, Shirley Fleharty of Creston: one son, Robert Fleharty of Creston: two daughters, Sheila (husband Monty) Mickey of Creston and Cathy (husband Lonnie) Maynes of Lenox: one brother, Rodney (wife Judy) Fleharty of Warrensburg, Mo.: one sister, Betty Crouse of Peoria, Ariz.: ten grandchildren, Shane Sanden, Shannon (husband Michael) Myers, Shawn Sanden, Sherry (friend Charles Vogl) Castillo, Michael (wife Sherime) Mickey, Milea (husband Aaron) Rochford, Cory (wife Kylee) Fleharty, Cayla Maynes, Clelland Maynes, Caitlyn Maynes and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: infant son: his parents, Vernon and Opal Fleharty: parents in-law, Fred and Grace McGinnis: daughter, Cindy Evans; sisters in-law, Donna Finkler and Rosie Weishaar: brothers in-law, Marvin McGinnis, Bob McGinnis and Loren Crouse.
