Emerson H. "Sonny" Johnston, 72 of Creston, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2002 of cancer at the Greater Community Hospital, Creston, IA.
Services were at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, 2002 at Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service, Creston. Officiating was Rev. Dena Vittorio of First Christian Church in Lenox, and Rev. Lynn Garrison. Interment was at Graceland Cemetery.
Memorials go to the Family. Military rites were given by the Theodore J. Martens Post #1797.
He was born on March 8, 1930 in Lenox to Mamie Johnston and Dolly Straight He attended Lenox High School but later received his GED and completed numerous courses at the universities.
He married in September 17, 1957 in Isadora, Mo., to Phyllis Senteney. He was a Safety Engineer-Construction and retired in 1991. He lived in Creston since 1995 and was a member of the Methodist Church in Clearfield and the American Legion. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife; Phyllis Johnston, Creston, and his children; Ronald (Fiance-Marlene Zeibig) Darling, Lenox; his brother, Kermit Johnston, Creston; sister Grace Weese of Creston; six grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and two great greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bernard; an infant brother; sister Alma Smith; and Brother-in-Law Calvin Weese.
