Services Held for Florence Mercer

Funeral services for Mrs. Ernest (Florence M.) Mercer, 75, a resident of Colfax since 1943, were held Monday, Oct. 26, at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.

The Rev. John McKinstry, pastor of the Howard Street Christian Church, conducted the services. Burial was in the Colfax Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the Christian Church building fund will be accepted.

Soloist was Miss Mable Kaldenberg, and Miss Eleanor Howell was organist.

Casket bearers were Robert Clark, Ronald Carroll, Lee Schmitt, Carl Wells, Charles Wier, and Don Swanson.

Mrs. Mercer died Friday, Oct. 23, at the Des Moines general Hospital.

Survivors are her husband; three sons, Leslie of Mason City, Donald of Kansas City, Mo., and Robert of Fairfield, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. George (Eleanor) Pratt of Littleton, Colo.; and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Mrs. Mercer, a member of the Howard Street Christian Church, had been employed at Vernon Co. in Newton for 19 years.

The daughter of Joseph and Nellie Price Irving, she was born Sept. 10, 1906, in Mount Ayr, was a 1925 graduate of Mount Ayr High School and attended Colorado State Teachers College at Greeley, Colo.

She was married Jan. 20, 1928 in Des Moines.

Mrs. Mercer also had resided at Afton. ~ Newspaper unknown, possibly The Des Moines Register or The Newton (IA) Daily News Thurs 29 Oct 1981
