Funeral services for Earl Clem, age 83, who died at Mercy Hospital in Corning on Friday, March 19, 1999, were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at the United Methodist Church in Lenox with Audrey Westendorf officiating.

Burial was held at the Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Services were conducted by the Ritchie Funeral Home of Lenox.

Earl Harvey Clem was born to William Crossley Clem and Louise Fay Dahlberg in Platte Township, Union County, Iowa on September 27, 1915. He grew up south of Kent, where he attended rural schools, graduating from Creston High School in 1933. He moved to Rockford, Illinois and worked for American Cabinet and Hardware during the Great Depression.

He married Evelyn Minnick on June 13, 1937 in Rockford. The couple moved back to Union County, south of Kent in 1941 where he farmed until 1955. They later moved to Lenox where he drove truck for Miller and Roy for several years, and then for the Sheridan Egg Company, retiring in 1977.
After his first retirement, Earl drove school bus for the Lenox Community Schools, a job he thoroughly enjoyed until 1985.

Earl enjoyed sports. He was active on high school track and cross-country teams and played town team softball and bowling. He had a reputation
as an excellent dancer and even danced with his grandmother at her 92nd birthday party.

Earl is survived by his wife Evelyn of Lenox; a daughter, Saundra Leininger and husband Jerry of Corning; two sons, Edwin Clem and Pam Hobbs
of Ames, Iowa and Paul Clem and wife Patricia of Stevenage, England; a sister, Alta Jean McCafferty of Fort Collins, Colorado; a sister-in-law, Creola Clem of Creston; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Louise, a brother, Donald and a brother-in-law, Robert McCafferty.
