Deceased Name: Dean Hoffman
Shannon City: Dean F. Hoffman, 79, of Shannon City, died Feb. 4, 2005, at his home. Services will be 10:30 a. m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr. The Rev. Susie Boyd will officiate the service. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery at Shannon City.
There is open visitation with the family receiving friends 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Green Valley Hospice.
Mr. Hoffman, son of Helene Margaret (Brown) and Frederick John Hoffman, was born Feb. 8, 1925, at Shannon City. On Dec. 28, 1948, he married Lola Mae Hastings in Moorehead, Minn. He was a farmer, and owned and operated Hoffman Service Station in Afton 18 years. He was a member of the Shannon City United Methodist Church, and VFW Post No. 8882 and American Legion Post No. 525, both of Afton. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific Theater during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Lola Hoffman of Shannon City; three daughters, Toni (husband Marlyn) Tindle of Winterset, Grace (husband Bill) Twilley of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and Connie (husband Wayne) Barnett of West Des Moines; three sisters, Grace (husband Lowell) Boughton of Mesa, Ariz., Enith Lenz of Coeur D'lene, Idaho, and Rosemary (husband Frank) Cheney of Spokane, Wash.; a brother, Robert V. (wife Patricia) Hoffman of Oakland; 10 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth G. and Franklin W. Hoffman; stepmother Mary Housh Hoffman and stepsister Nellie Young.
