McAuley, Margaret Ann Peak Armstrong Parsons -
Margaret Ann McAuley was born January 7, 1937, in Kent, Iowa. She was one of three children of Lester and Nettie (Madden) Peak. She graduated from Cromwell High School with the Class of 1955. She went on to attend Northwest Missouri State
University and Buena Vista University.
Margaret was married on June 21, 1959 in Kent, Iowa, to Lyle B. Armstrong. To their union was born a daughter, Monica.
She completed her student teaching in the Casey School system. She then became a teacher for the Prescott school system for several years.
On March 20, 1982, Margaret was married to Charlie Parsons in Creston Iowa. They were married for ten years until his death in 1992.
On February 4, 1995, she was married to Leo McAuley at the First Christian church in Creston. Up to that time, Margaret had spent most of her life in the Creston and Kent areas. Upon marriage to Leo, they made their home in Clearfield.
She had worked as a nursing home activity director and a facility manager for Innovative Industries after finishing her teaching career.
Margaret was a member of the First Christian church in Creston, the V.F.W. Auxiliary, the Order of Eastern Star, Prescott Chapter, and the Laureate Tau Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.
She died August 26, 1997, at her home in Clearfield at the age of 60 years, 7 months, and 19 days.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Lyle Armstrong, her second husband, Charlie Parsons, and a sister Mary Ellen Thompson.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Leo McAuley of Clearfield, her daughter and son-in-law Monica and Doug Wilson of Kent, la.; Step children - Perry McAuley and friend Delba of Dearborn, Missouri; Timothy McAuley and wife Kristine of Dearborn, MO; Thomas McAuley and friend Sandy of Dearborn, MO; Michelle Zabel and husband Michael of Rushville, MO; Roy Parson and wife Marsha of Creston; Lou Ann Merrill and husband Loren of Creston; and Mark Parson and wife Brenda of Osceola; a brother David Peak and friend Sheryl of Des Moines; two grandchildren Kyle and Korey Wilson of Kent; numerous stepgrandchildren; and one step great grandchild; as well as other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held August 29, 1997, at the First Christian Church in Creston with Dr. Robert Pickerell and Rev. Al Rusk officiating.
Serving as pallbearers were Max Jensen, Ross Craft, Earl Dibel, Gary Hays, Roger Mick and Dana Larimore. Honorary Pallbearers were Marvin Grouse, Loren Grouse, Jack Caldwell, Richard Luther, Dean McIntire, and Bob McIntire.
Pennie Gonseth was the organist as Doug Wilson, Jim Mayne and Cindy Selim sang.
Burial was in the Morgan cemetery in rural Kent. A memorial has been established in Margaret's name.
Coen-Beaty Funeral Home of Creston was in charge of the arrangements.
